An Airport Post
I have almost gotten back home. My flight to Little Rock was supposed to leave 15 minutes ago and still no plane yet. I hear it'll be another 40 minutes before my plane even arrives in Dallas. The only thing worse that going back to Memphis is going back to Memphis after a delayed flight so you're assured of being a little tired and on a plane with a boat load of other angry people.
Had a good weekend visiting LP's family in Dallas-- her 2 sisters and one bra (that's what Hansel from Zoolander would say for "brother").
I brought my bike on this trip which is kinda different. I've never gotten to do any significant riding in Dallas. The bike also kept me sane as it got me out of the confines of the house for a little while each day.
We arrived Friday night after a pretty uneventful 7.5 hour drive-- the only eventful thing is that Anna refused to sleep any of the trip. I figured she'd at least be bored into sleeping. We're contemplating taking the step of getting a cheap DVD player for Anna to watch on trips but we're kinda scared. We've heard of some parents who can't even drive to the grocery store without turning on the DVD player. FQ that noize.
I got up Saturday morning and snuck off to do a race about 15 minutes from my bro-in-laws house. This was day 1 for me in learning about the winds of Texas-- and they are strong. I rode a very active race and prolly cost myself a few places by riding so aggressively but I ended up 7th out of 45 finishers. I'll take it.
Sunday was LP's nephew's b/day party. But first I got up and rode with a local group. Day 2 in my lessons of riding with Texas winds. we started with about 30 people but I wanted to make life hard for the locals-- which I did for 2 hours until the group was whittled down to about 8 folks, but then the wind' effects took their toll. I dragged ass home with some of the slower riders who actually had to pull me in but I sucked it up and got in nearly 4 hours. Drop a Benadryl when I get home then flatline for an afternoon nap.
Even as badly as I got it on the group ride, I fared better than my bro-in-law's dog-- she jumped off the bed and tore her ACL. Thank goodness that putting her to sleep was not an option as that would have been a joykill for Blake's b/day party.
Therapist: Blake, what's your earliest childhood memory.
Blake: Daddy killed our dog for my second b/day.
She'll need surgery and time off her feet which is fine because Biscuit is about as active as my dog Ally.
Had a good time at the b/day party. Played with the kids and ate a bunch of cake. Time to get back to Memphis and my little eating disorder.
Peas.
